The Lenco Troll `n Tab trolling motors are worthless for full-time trolling. They are seriously underpowered for the type of trolling they're advertised for and the heavy current draw will draw the batteries they specify down in 1 hr - 20 min.Their lack of adequate power makes the stern drive steering a serious problem in winds over 7-8 mph.
Overall conclusion:Interesting concept, but poor execution by a poor company.

I corresponded with the engineering department at Lenco several times before buying these motors and wireless remotes.I gave them the weight (4700 lbs loaded) and the length (21 ft.), trolling speed and the type of fishing we do (salmon, trout, bluebacks).Their exact answer to the question of whether they would work was, "Absolutely!.......I can say without a doubt that these have enough thrust to do just about everything you need and more".

I worked for four months to try and optimize the performance of these including a lot of time with the President of Stealth Chargers (this guy is extremely knowledgeable and offers fantastic support), supplier of an on-board / shore-power charger.

The Lenco service department conceded that the battery life I was experiencing was all I could expect. The system would not recharge adequately running the main engine between trolls. The steering system in the wind is very inadequate. Also, don't let the pictures of the foot pedal control on the website fool you. This is a very light-weight, user-unfriendly plastic thing you will be controlling by hand.........not what you are used to with bow-mounted electric trolling foot controls. So, in the end I made the decision to remove the system and convert back to an outboard kicker like I use on my other boats.Total sunk cost (not counting the new system) - over $6000.

Lenco's warranty says to contact them directly so I did.In 45 years of boating, dealing with this company was absolutely the worst I have ever experienced.Their VP of Sales, Todd Smith, would not even return a phone call until I contacted the President of Lenco. When he finally responded, he flat said that it was not his problem because I bought them through a distributor (even though the warranty states to contact Lenco). The distributor (River Marine (Miami) and Donovan Marine (Miami) of course said they would have Lenco call me immediately (never happened). The fact that Lenco reviewed the entire application before hand made no difference to Smith and he basically said I was stuck with them and he didn't plan to do a thing about it.

So, I am stuck with a box full of parts that I plan on putting on a grandkid's small rowboat to put around in our bay.I got this idea from watching a video on the Lenco website that shows the trolling motors being operated by a small boy in an 8 ft zodiac with a "joystick" control. If you need power for a kid's boat, then go for it, but if you want to do serious trolling (at least like we do in the north) then you better run the other way.
