(More customer reviews)I've had the STR-DE995 for just over two years now and it continues to perform well in almost every area. The supplied remote is very easy to use and, since mose of my components are Sony anyway, worked with everything "out of the box."
If there's a downside it's that this receiver is starting to show its age. It has no ProLogic IIx support and it doesn't have any DVI or HDMI inputs. It also cannot use it's own on-screen menus via component video. It also has limited component video inputs, since it was built at a time when S-Video was king and component was just catching on.
It continues to do an admirable job switching and up-converting to component video for my Mitsubishi DLP HDTV. Sound is very good in 5.1 modebut the receiver's digital cinema modes really stand out in 7.1 mode.
Overall, for the generation it was built this is an outstanding receiver and I have been very happy with it for years. I may be forced to upgrade to get additional digital inputs, but otherwise it's an excellent bargain and a good start to a good home theater.
