One caveat on this review: I'm neither an audiophile nor an expert on home theater systems.

I purchased the Sony Bravia DVD Home Theater System commensurate with selection of a Samsung LN-S4695D 46-inch LCD television. After setting up the television, I opened the Sony box, noting the contents were carefully packed. The instructions were straight-forward, though mostly unnecessary, even for me. From start to finish, assembly of the front speaker stands and setup required about 40 minutes. I've recently installed a laminate floor, purposely holding off on quarter-round so I might conceal speaker cables. This was a good decision, and I was pleased to find supplied cabling for the rear speakers was adequate for my large room.

As I suggested at the onset, I'm a novice with home theater systems; notwithstanding, after consulting the Samsung manual, I had the system up and running within five minutes. Proper calibration was facilitated by a microphone, which Sony provides for this purpose. The results: I was blown away. My first DVD was Pearl Harbor and the sound was better than my recollection of that in the movie theater--when I closed my eyes, it was like Zeroes and P-40s flying about me. Tremendous!

Today, I connected my iPod via an Apple-made cradle. Again, this installation was easy and intuitive and, though I've heard people say home theater systems are inadequate for enjoying music, I am more than satisfied.

In summary, the Sony Bravia HDS 500 comes well packed, is most attractive, and I'm exceedingly pleased with the ease of configuration and sound quality. I feel comfortable that I made a good purchase decision in the context of price and quality. I should add too that I am ecstatic about the performance of my Samsung TV.
